Updated Contact List and Notes from RMCR Conference

Hey Everyone-

It was great to see so many of you in Colorado Springs last week! I'm posting a contact list at the bottom of this email. It includes an updated email list of everyone who gets my updates and receives automatic email notifications when I post CAPCOV reports. Email me if you'd like additional people from your station added to the list.

At the conference we agreed to increase content sharing among RMCR stations. To that end, stations with news deptartments have agreed to post one story to the RMCR shared website by December 15th. The theme is the impact of the economic downtown on local communities. Stations can post a full fledged piece, a Q and A with someone in your region, or a voxpop. The stories should be able to hold until Jan 1st and should run no-longer than 4 minutes.
Please contact me if you have questions about this "assignment". Again, the website for posting is superhumanbaby.com, and instructions are online.

We're also working to consolidate websites and put links to RMCR on every station's website.
More info to follow as things progress.

And finally, we have two new RMCR member stations- KWMV in Westcliffe and KUVO in Denver.

Election Night Plans

Hey Everyone-
I sent an email about this earlier, but I wanted to update you on my plans for election night. On election night I'll be with the Democrats and will be available for reporter two way phone interviews during the day and in the evening for live coverage. I'll also post a story that day on turnout and voting problems or irregularities should they arise and will be at a few Denver polling locations.
I'll post another story the evening of the 4th for the following morning on some of the major ballot questions and a general wrap up. KUNC is posting stories on the U.S. senate race and the 4th congressional race.
As I said earlier I'm hoping other RMCR stations will share stories on election night. We'll use the same system that we used during the DNC. I've posted the instructions below. Delaney Utterback of KRCC will be your contact for questions about the audio sharing website, his contact info is at the bottom of this message.

The website for uploading and downloading pieces on election night is- www.superhumanbaby.com. You need to login to use the website.
Delaney Utterback from KRCC has set up user names and passwords for stations/reporters. If your station doesn't have an account please email DELANEY at delaney@krcc.org and he will create one.

A generic user name can be used for freelancers or temp workers.

Directions for Posting- (from Delaney)

Welcome to Rocky Mountain Community Radio's file sharing site. Sorry about the strange domain name... this site will eventually reside at www.rmcrstations.org. But, for now, www.superhumanbaby.com it is.

The site is pretty simple right now. If you look on the left side of the screen, you'll notice a link called "Create Content." After clicking that link, there are a few options, including: audio, blog and story. You will mostly be using the "Audio" link.

The "Audio" module will allow you to post a story by uploading an MP3 or WAV file. It will also allow you to include a Host Lead and any other information you would like to include about your post, as well.

I won't over explain, because I feel like it's a pretty simple form... go have a look. After you upload your story, it will be featured on the front page of the site, where others can download the piece, and even leave comments. (Note that it spits out a couple errors when you enter the "Audio" module, you can ignore them.)

If you don't see what you're looking for on the front page of the site, or to find recent content or all files, click the "Recent posts" link on the right, or "Browse by" and then "Title." Note that when you upload audio, it is helpful to be as descriptive as possible in the "Title" of your post; include the date if you can. This will make finding it later easier.

Feel free to explore other portions of the site. It's very basic right now, but can grow to accommodate your requests.

There is a file size limit of 8mb for now. If you need to share something larger than that, we have an FTP site running as well:

For some clients, especially Fetch on a Mac, you'll need to replace the "@" with a "+" in the username.

Please grab this content for your own websites, but please download and host the audio files on your own servers. For now, we don't have a hosting package with a lot of bandwidth. Plus, I'd hate to break your links when the site name changes. If you would like to develop a content module for your website from the content featured here, or from Bente's CapCov reports, contact me and I'll help you.

Election Night Plans

Update

I posted a story today on John McCain's rally in Denver. The piece can hold until Monday but you should change the lead to reflect Obama's visit this weekend. I'll also post a piece on Sunday from Kirk Siegler of KUNC who is covering the Obama rally in Ft. Collins.
Next week I'll be working on voting stories and will cover any big rallies in town.
And just to give you a heads up, on election night I'll be with the Democrats. and will be available for reporter two way phone interviews that night, the following morning...any time. On election day I'll be at polling locations in the Denver area for a story on turnout and voting problems or irregularities should they arise. I'm hoping RMCR stations will share stories on election night. I'll send more info on that next week but I expect it will be similar to what we did during the DNC.

And finally, I'm looking forward to seeing most of you (I hope!) at our annual Rocky Mountain Community Radio Conference in Colorado Springs, coming up soon!

Hey Everyone-
I just posted the personhood amendment story. That can air any time in the next week or so. I'm posting a story tomorrow on Joe Biden's rally. I'll also post a piece tomorrow from Kirk Siegler of KUNC on Sarah Palin's visit today.
I'm planning a story later this week on the strength of mail in ballots and early voting in Colorado.

I'll post a story today on how people in the Native American community are feeling about the presidential race and which candidate is speaking to them. I'll also post a Q and A this week about a new study on voting purges, their history and some of the problems associated with purging people from the voting rolls. I'll also have a piece on the personhood amendment.

I'll have a story tonight on the U.S. senate debate between Bob Schaffer and Mark Udall. I'm also post something this week on Amendment 59 that creates a savings account for education. I might have another ballot initiative story this week on the personhood amendment.
